If you look at various food calendars, you’ll see there are several days dedicated to celebrating cupcakes. Maybe there is confusion over whether “Cupcake Day” falls in March, June, August, or December, or perhaps, it’s all an excuse to eat more cupcakes. That’s fine with us. June 13th is Cupcake Lovers Day, and we certainly love cupcakes. Cupcakes might be trendy, but they’re not new. They’ve been around since the 17th century when they were first baked in tea cups, giving them their name “cupcake.”
Cupcakes have come a long way since then. Did you know that cupcakes used to be covered in lard until Winston Churchill suggested frosting instead? Good for him! Even better, vegan cupcakes are becoming the norm. Vegan chef Chloe Coscarelli won Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, and Doron Petersan and Jenny Webb of Washington D.C.’s Sticky Fingers Bakery won Cupcake Wars All-Stars, showing the world that vegan cupcakes are just as good, or better, than non-vegan ones. But we knew that, didn’t we? Cupcakes are delicious and fun. Check out these 10 Creative Cupcake Ideas for Every Dessert Love,r and then show your cupcake love with these 10 amazing vegan cupcakes.
