We all know that different diets suit different people’s lifestyles. If you’re somebody who engages in a lot of daily cardio activity, you’re going to require more carbs and calories to keep you fueled than somebody who spends most of their day lounging around on a couch. Some people require large amounts of protein; others enjoy eating good-for-you fats. But the diet of a Greek god(dess) seems to be pretty universal: just ambrosia and nectar.

In ancient Greek mythology, ambrosia was the sole staple food of the gods and goddesses. Often, our favorite immortals up on Mount Olympus are depicted in myth and literature as enjoying ambrosia and nectar to drink during celebrations.

Most unfortunately, human beings require a little more than solely ambrosia and nectar to keep us alive — but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy divine confections too. Check out some of these ambrosia and nectar recipes from our Food Monster App and nourish yourself like a celestial Greek entity today. You deserve it.

1. Ambrosia Overnight Oatmeal

This Ambrosia Overnight Oatmeal by Lauren Smith takes its inspiration from a classic Midwestern and Southern pudding-type dessert called Ambrosia that traditionally contains oranges, banana, coconut, pineapple, Maraschino cherries, and marshmallows. Here, it gets a healthified update for breakfast — in overnight oatmeal form!

2. Raw Grapefruit Doughnuts With Coconut Nectar

These gluten-free Raw Grapefruit Doughnuts by Krisztina Berta are healthy, sweet and tangy, and use coconut nectar to achieve their oh-so-decadent flavor profile! They’re made with gluten-free oats, shredded coconut, buckwheat, and a decadent orange coconut butter frosting, but a chocolate frosting would be just as good.

3. Spelt Bread With Cocoa and Agave Nectar

This Spelt Bread With Cocoa and Agave Nectar by Chrysta Hiser is a dense and hearty whole grain bread made with dark cocoa powder, which lends it its dark and powerful hue, as well as its bold flavor. It smells so incredibly chocolatey while mixing, but tastes like a grain bread once baked. The mix of spelt and whole wheat will leave you feeling powerful and godly in the morning.

4. Chocolate Hazelnut Spread With Coconut Nectar

This Chocolate Hazelnut Spread by Julie Van den Kerchove tastes just like Nutella! This homemade version of the silky, chocolatey delight is free from dairy, gluten, and refined sugars, and uses coconut nectar to achieve its sweetness. It tastes great on just about anything, but the best way to eat it is straight out of the jar!

5. Greek Orange Cake With Agave Nectar

This perfumed Greek Orange Cake by Lenia Patsi is the perfect way to finish off a warm summer evening. the light bite of citrus from the orange peels is offset by the orange flesh and cloves to make a flavorful experience that is refined and simple all at the same time. This cake is best served cold, with a black cup of coffee along side it.
