At the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Azerbaijan, a delegation has voiced concerns over the accuracy of food labelling practices. Vegan labels on several dishes were found to be misleading, containing animal-derived ingredients. A lack of suitable identification led staff at the venue to mislabel food options, allegedly due to a scarcity of accurate cards for non-vegan dishes, according to Shreya Ghodawat. Despite initial appearances, a meticulous examination of the menu exposed existing labeling inaccuracies.
The Plant-Based Treaty has brought attention to this pressing matter through a widely shared social media post that garnered over 3,000 likes, underscoring the need for accurate and detailed information on the environmental footprint of the food options presented to delegates. They urged the COP29 organizers to take immediate action to resolve this pressing issue.
