Gordon Ramsay—the celebrity chef once known for mocking vegans—is now saying he loves vegan food. Yes, really.
In a recent Instagram video with plant-based creator Alfie Steiner (aka @alfiecooks), Ramsay opened up about his growing appreciation for plant-based cuisine during a chat at his new East London restaurant, Lucky Cat. When Steiner asked if he liked vegan food, Ramsay responded without hesitation: “I absolutely do.”
This admission might come as a surprise to longtime fans (and critics) of Ramsay, who’s made a career out of fiery kitchen antics and meat-heavy menus. He once famously joked that he was “allergic to vegans.” But things seem to have changed—and so has the menu at Lucky Cat.
The restaurant now offers three standout plant-based dishes: vegetable maki rolls, miso glazed gochujang aubergine, and a vegan twist on tom kha noodles. The classic Thai dish usually includes chicken or fish sauce, but Ramsay said Lucky Cat’s version holds its own: “It doesn’t warrant a protein, a chicken, it doesn’t need beef in there, it’s stand alone good.”
According to Plant Based News, Ramsay’s shift toward plant-based options reflects a wider culinary movement, with more chefs embracing meat-free dishes for taste, ethics, and sustainability.
Ramsay’s openness to vegan food is a win for animals, the planet, and everyone rooting for change in the culinary world. If he can turn the corner, maybe others will follow.
If one of the world’s top chefs can change his mind about vegan food, anyone can. Try a plant-based recipe this week—you might surprise yourself.
