Our livers are the second largest organ in our bodies and they play a major role in our overall health. They have the important function of cleaning what comes in and out of our bodies, sort of like a filter. It removes harmful toxins and detoxifies our blood. That’s why it’s important to eat foods that will keep our livers healthy and improve its functions, and to avoid things that can be harmful to our livers, like overconsumption of alcohol. Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to do so with plant-based foods seeing as health experts recommend eliminating or reducing animal foods for optimal liver health, as well as reducing alcohol, sugar, processed foods, and eating a whole-foods plant-based diet rich in antioxidants.
