Thailand is endeavouring to carve out a prominent position for itself within the burgeoning international plant-based industry. The Ministry of Commerce’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office has outlined a strategic plan to establish the nation as a premier supplier of premium, protein-rich plant-based commodities. Thailand is capitalizing on the global surge in plant-based diets to drive economic growth and bolster its food export sector.

The plan prioritizes the development and refinement of plant-based food systems, centered on staple crops like wheat, sorghum, barley, and corn. The TPSO’s strategy prioritizes bolstering agricultural infrastructure, driving innovation, and cultivating partnerships to guarantee high-quality products and market competitiveness. Targeted marketing initiatives will focus on increasing brand visibility domestically and internationally, thereby expanding our customer base, and simultaneously advocate for environmentally conscious farming methods.

To solidify its standing in the worldwide marketplace, Thailand is set to allocate significant resources towards advancing research and innovation initiatives, concurrently refining legal frameworks to harmonize with internationally recognized benchmarks. Revisions to food labelling regulations are necessary to align with global standards, eliminating misleading labels like “meaty terms” that deceive consumers about the composition of plant-based products.
