What is a galette?

The first time I indulged in a homemade peach galette, its sweet and buttery aroma wafted up to greet me, and with that initial bite, I was forever hooked on the charms of this rustic dessert. A galette is significantly lighter in texture than its pie counterpart, devoid of the weighty burden of excessive fruit and sugary indulgence. Baking fruit using this technique has become a favorite hobby of mine.

The imperfect charm of a galette lies in its very essence: it’s a rustic, effortless delight that celebrates the beauty of imperfection. A delectable dessert – it’s a simple crust topped with an abundance of fresh fruit. Tuck the parchment paper tightly around the fruit to retain its natural flavors and moisture during the baking process.

Peach Galette

To create a luscious peach galette, gather these essential components:

  • fresh peaches
  • flour
  • salt
  • butter
  • sugar
  • cinnamon
  • water

Peach Galette Recipe

In a large mixing bowl, preferably that of a Kitchenaid stand mixer, combine the dry ingredients. Alternatively, use a large bowl suitable for your handheld mixer.

With the paddle attachment, incorporate the chilled cubed butter, continuing to blend until a harmonious union is achieved, ultimately resulting in the formation of crumbly fragments at the base of the mixing vessel.

Slowly pour in the ice-cold water, adding one tablespoon increments while simultaneously mixing the ingredients together using either a fork or the paddle attachment of your stand mixer, carefully blending until the dough holds together upon gentle pressing with your fingers.

How To Make A Simple Pie Crust

Wrapped tightly in plastic wrap, the dough is then refrigerated for a minimum of 15 minutes. As you allow the dough to rest in the refrigerator, simultaneously prepare the peaches by washing and slicing them into desired portions.

Arrange the peach slices in a decorative bowl and generously dust with a blend of warm cinnamon and sweet sugar. Toss gently and set aside.
