Let’s work together to maintain the momentum of our mission.

European policymakers and agriculture stakeholders have forged a landmark accord prioritizing the reduction of meat consumption, harmonizing farming methods with environmentally conscious objectives. A recent report, the culmination of seven months of collaboration between farming interests, environmental advocates, and other key players, has issued a pressing mandate for overhauling European food production and consumption practices with utmost urgency.

European diets are found to be in need of rebalancing, with consumers consuming higher amounts of animal protein than the scientifically recommended levels. To transition towards plant-based diets, effective measures are proposed to combine rigorous education, reinforced marketing regulation, and incentivized region-specific voluntary buyouts for areas heavily reliant on intense livestock production.

To facilitate this shift, the proposal recommends establishing a “Just Transition Fund” to provide financial support for farmers as they transition to more environmentally friendly methods. The proposed overhaul of EU agricultural subsidies aims to shift its focus from benefiting large-scale farms to providing targeted support for those in greatest need.

Despite animal agriculture’s considerable impact on climate change and habitat destruction, European leaders have thus far failed to take decisive action. While the report recommends that policymakers foster plant-based diets by implementing initiatives like complimentary school lunches and tax breaks for eco-friendly food items. While farming groups have expressed reservations, the overarching goal is widely regarded as a prudent and essential move towards a more environmentally conscious and economically viable future for farmers and the planet alike.
