The Plant-Based World Expo North America marked its fifth anniversary by hosting an unprecedented gathering at the Javits Center in New York City from September 11-12, attracting a historic turnout of buyers and industry experts. The event convened a diverse group of leaders from industries such as food service, retail, hospitality, and distribution. Two-thirds of the attendees held significant sway as decision-makers possessing direct procurement authority, thereby underscoring the event’s increasing prominence within the burgeoning plant-based industry.
This year’s event showcased a remarkable level of international engagement, featuring exhibitors hailing from esteemed nations such as Mexico, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Brazil. Food industry shifts are prioritizing wholesome products and eco-friendly innovations designed to minimize waste and maximize sustainable practices. Consumers’ increasing desire for wholesome nutrition drove a surge in the development of nutrient-rich, plant-based products that catered to this growing demand for healthier food choices.
Experts convened for a thought-provoking series of discussions to explore the trajectory of the plant-based food industry, featuring insights from SPINS CEO Jay Margolis and Joseph Saine of Impossible Foods as they delved into strategies for seamlessly incorporating plant-based meals into daily routines. The expo also catered to institutions such as schools and colleges, where prominent companies like Sodexo are pioneering plant-based menus as the new standard for student dining options.
The event featured a landmark occasion: the inaugural VEGPRENEUR awards, honouring exceptional products that excelled in categories of sustainability, flavour, innovation, and market viability. Notable winners included brands like milkadamia, Seed & Shell, and Yo Egg.
As Jonathan Morley, Event Director, looks back on the expo’s triumph, he highlights the pivotal role that the plant-based industry plays in revolutionizing the world’s culinary landscape. As we look to the future, the highly anticipated Plant-Based World Expo will take place on September 24-25, 2025, at the iconic Javits Center in New York City.
