In the cold winter, when storms start raging, there’s a chance your school or work will get shut down for the best unplanned holiday: a snow day! On these days, you may want to bundle up in the warmth inside, which means it’s a great opportunity to do some cooking and baking. Our bloggers will show you their tips for how to get inspired by the mountains of fluffy white snow outside by using these snow look-alike ingredients: Coconut, powdered sugar, marshmallow and whipped cream! Even better is the fact that all of these recipes can be found on our Food Monster App!
1. Coconut

When the snow first begins to collect on the ground, the individual flakes slowly gathering together, it almost looks like shredded coconut sprinkled around! Make recipes inspired by the beginning of the snowfall, like these 7-Ingredient Lemon Coconut Squares from Vanessa Croessmann! They look as light and fluffy as can be.
Lucie Javorska‘s Healthy ‘Raffaello’ (Coconut-Almond Truffles) look almost like delightful little snowballs, but they’re full of awesome flavor! More coconut balls top this Coconut Cake from Camila Hurst, and both of these recipes are making us want to go start a snowball fight! Afterward, treat yourself from all the running around in the snow with these coconut-dusted Wagon Wheels from Holly Jade!
2. Powdered Sugar

Similarly to coconut, powdered sugar reminds us of an even more delicate snowfall that’s just beginning to show on the ground. These delightful cookie recipes will not only be a tasty treat to snack on (and fun to make!) when you’re stuck at home all day, but they’re dusted with powdered sugar to get you into the spirit. Just look at how cute and snowy these Orange Shortbread Cookies from Maryke Wylde are!
Even though the holidays have just passed, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still enjoy festive recipes – especially when their flavor is so amazing and so perfectly suited to the weather outside! It’s never too late for Soft, Chewy Gingerbread Cookies from Wendy Irene or Holiday Stollen from Petra Vogel! Wrap up the day with these adorable Almond Crescent Cookies from Katrina Nixon.
3. Marshmallow

Light, fluffy marshmallows remind us of sloping snowbanks that we just want to dive into! We also want to dive right into this Thick and Creamy Hot Chocolate from Kat Condon – how amazing does it look? Do you prefer vanilla over chocolate? No problem, our bloggers have you covered for that too! Try Tori Cooper‘s Easy Vanilla Marshmallow Shakes.
Not only will these marshmallow-topped beauties be reminiscent of the weather outside, but they’re also a perfect treat that don’t have to be saved only for the warmer months: s’mores treats! This Caramelized Banana S’mores Skillet from Emma D’Alessandro and these Brownie S’mores from Holly Jade both require no campfire, and you can enjoy them all bundled up while watching the snow fall through the window.
4. Whipped Cream

Not that we need any more reason to enjoy whipped cream, but there’s the added bonus that it looks exactly like the gathering snow that piles up outside on a snow day! Just look at the topping on these Pumpkin Cupcakes from Olivia Lin – it looks just like a pile of snow that your inner child would want to make the perfect snowman out of. The fluffiness of the “snow” on these Pandan Coconut Cupcakes by Daphne Goh looks just like gathering flurries. This Quick and Easy Hot Cocoa from Dawn Kriss is topped with a snowdrift-like swirl of whipped cream that looks just perfect!
